About this coloring page

A dove appears inside the rays above the river, easy to spot before the people below have even been colored. That detail anchors the Jesus Baptism coloring page. John stands on the bank beside Jesus and pours water over his head, while reeds, stones, palms, and distant hills place the scene along the Jordan. Matthew 3:13-17 is a natural passage to read with it; Mark 1 and Luke 3 tell the baptism as well.

Let the dove stay white. Pale yellow around the rays will keep its outline visible, and two shades of blue can follow the river's current while each curved line stays clear. Sandy browns work along the bank. The narrow reeds need a pencil, but the robes are roomy enough for crayons. One small detail sits near Jesus' elbow where water and fabric meet, and careful colorers tend to linger there (sometimes much longer than the lesson plan allows).

For a Sunday school class, ask children to find John and Jesus. Then look for the river; the dove comes last. Read the passage. Change direction after that and have them retell the scene from the bottom of the page upward, ending with the voice from heaven.

The free printable PDF also fits sacramental preparation or a homeschool lesson about the beginning of Jesus' ministry. Add the Bible reference on the back, or choose one story word to letter in large print. 'Beloved' works well. This baptism of Jesus coloring page can stand alone, though it also makes sense early in a Gospel-story coloring set.
