About this coloring page
Tucked into this mermaid's long wavy hair rides a starfish, and the hair alone splits into ribbony strands. She sits in a shallow lagoon holding a big scallop shell while swirling water lines wander everywhere. Then there's the tail. Dozens of little scales, each drawn as its own tiny region, which makes this the patient-hands page of the fantasy set. Around her, the artist packed in a palm tree, branching coral, a spiral snail shell, and two more scallops.
Sharp colored pencils are close to mandatory for the tail, and the page really rewards colorists who have been practicing gradient work. Shift the scales from green at the hip to blue at the fin, one row at a time, and the whole tail starts to shimmer. This one is a project, in the best way.
