About this coloring page
Circles, stripes, zigzag bands, and odd little panels cover this beetle's shell from top to bottom, so treat it like a mosaic that happens to have legs. A single veined leaf leans against one side, and smooth pebbles pile below. Squiggle-edged clouds float above. It's the closest thing to a stained-glass window in the insect collection.
Each panel sits sealed inside its outline, so each one can take a different color, and the page holds up whether a kid uses four colors or fourteen. Markers lay down bold flat fills here, and burnishing colored pencil over the bigger shapes gives that glossy beetle-shell look the title promises. Take it slow. Patient colorers will find a rhythm, and impatient ones can just do the big circles first. Both approaches end well.
